The White Project

The White Project
For ‘The White Project’ I explored a four-week project within Textiles, Fine Art, Graphics and 3D Design. All four areas looked at the same theme - White. I was tasked with looking at what the word means and how it shares many connotations with the natural and manmade world.

Much of the project focused on technical approaches along with art and design theories. I was asked to produce a final outcome using a variety of techniques experienced from the workshops but mainly from independent research and analysis.

I was inspired to produce a tactile piece after researching the work of Bram Bogart. I found his compositions to be expressive and futuristic, but also almost naturalistic which made the viewer want to touch and explore. These were qualities I wanted to replicate in my own outcomes for The White Project.

I developed my ideas from sketches into small experimental maquettes using a variety of materials. The most successful maquettes displayed interesting texture, shape and form and I developed these through several stages of development before producing my final piece. This resulted in an intricate sculpture using contrasting materials to dramatic effect.

Initial ideas which I developed through experimentation using a range of mixed media.

I had to consider which would be the best tactile materials for my concept.
Drawings showing how my concept could work as an installation at an gallery or exhibition space.
Further design development.
Drawings and annotation of materials used for my final outcome.
